Client: WAD Developments Limited
Comber Mill is a collection of listed 19th century linen and flax mills located at the edge of Comber, a small town around 20 miles south-east of Belfast. RMI had been involved with the project over a decade which saw the transformation of derelict buildings into a thriving residential village.
Phase 3 of the proposed development consisted of three new-build apartment blocks, containing 46 two and three-bedroom apartments, with a new café and restaurant. The Phase 3 blocks maintain the established grain of the former mill buildings and respect the building forms and openings of the existing. At the south-west corner of the site between the busy Ballygowan Road and tree lined Railway Street the rigid grain dissipates to accommodate a dramatic glazed corner accommodating office and ground floor retail use. This is in contrast with the solid masonry of the listed buildings and marks the entry to the Town.
