Robinson McIlwaine were appointed as architects for the project following an RSUA sponsored architectural competition. The winning design located the Learning Resource Centre on one side of a new 2 ½ storey colonnade which directs visitors towards the new glazed entrance. A new staircase and lift rise to mall level from which the commercial block extends towards the student carparks to the west. The design logic is driven by an understanding of the way people move through space and how they react to their surroundings. The walls and columns are clad in granite with triple glazing in aluminium frames. Internally day light pervades all spaces including the previously artificially lit existing library.
The Contractor was selected by traditional tender.
